Judith

I live in the shadow-
I am the one eyes that you remember,
they that you dream about.
I am a white horse with flaired nostrils.
I snort at dawn- a deer in the garden.
I have the moon for bones.
My lungs are caves.
You here my voice as all the birds
that ever sang at every dawn.
I cannot speak but through the light
but I hear all, sing all, scream all, feel all
and am colored all.
I am not white. At night I am not black
but am all colors that remain.
In the day I am not white, but all colors
that are in between all other colors-
there at noon- one of the shades of grass
that is not green.

I live in the shadow inside you.
I am the place in the berry patch;
It is warm there- you can wrap yourself in it,
slow the breath way down and down and let
mosquitoes land. They will leave without biting.
There is nothing to bite.
There is a broken stone.
There is dust and bone-
Nothing for the mosquitoes.
You hear them whining.
They are sirens way away and going further,
leaving me in the shadows, you and me.
Me, we, feeding on the berries.
I am the shadow way.
I live inside you.
We feed each other.
We are bride and groom
Feeding each other berries.
