BLAST. Growing database of DNA and protein sequences. Very powerful. You can enter protein sequences, DNA sequences or look up protein/DNA sequences and compare organisms. The BLAST software searches for homologies.OMIM Home Page -- Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man Wonderful data base concerning human genetics. A bit difficult for the non biologist to understand. A useful place to look for literature on a genetically based disorder in humans.
Welcome to PubMed If you are working on a paper related to medicine, you might enjoy medline which you can search for free on PubMed. Of course at JCCC you can also do this but here's another way.
- The SNP Consortium Home Page SNP's are Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and these have become important in studying human evolution and migration patterns.
- TIGR Databases - The Institute for Genomic Research
The Baker Laboratory Homepage. David Baker has been developing new methods to predict protein folding.Bioinformatics:Gene Expression
DNA Microarray (Genome Chip) (by Leming Shi, PhD)
GenDoc GenDoc is a protein sequence comparison program for phylogenetic analysis. Has a good discussion of calculating similarity between amino acids in terms of the mutations required to go from one amino acid to another.
Human Genome Project Information. This site reviews the progress that has and is being made to map all the DNA bases in the human genome. Also discusses the role our increased understanding of human genetics will have on your life: not your grand kids lives....your life.
