Clonaid

I appear to have hit the mother lode when I find the Clonaid.com site.  These people are self-described "Pioneers in Human Cloning."  What I might notice on further investigation is that Clonaid is affiliated with the Raelian Movement, "the world's largest UFO-related organization."  Looking a bit further, I realize that Clonaid is as much a pseudo-religious outfit as it is a scientific one.

But why, you might ask, would these people be creating this soothingly designed site?  Take a look at the menu bar toward the top of the page.  The first two items seem harmless enough, but then we come to "Services," "Products," and "Invest."  It certainly appears that the people at Clonaid have an interest in separating readers from some of their money.  That's not to say that every organization that sells something or offers a service is disreputable and not to be trusted.  However, a financial or political motive in a source should make us wary.

Judgment:  I would not use Clonaid as a reliable source, but I might use them as an example of the fringes of the cloning debate.
