Personal Information

I became an instructor at Johnson County Community College in January 1996.  I teach Introduction to Writing, Composition I (online and on-campus) Composition II (online and on-campus), Major British Authors (online and on-campus), Introduction to Fiction (online and on-campus), Introduction to Literature (online and on-campus), and Technical Writing.  Before coming to JCCC, I taught English at The University of Missouri-Columbia, The University of Kansas, and Kansas City Kansas Community College. For two years I was the Distance Learning Coordinator/Mentor at JCCC, so I'm a big proponent of online education. Here's my vita for more info.

I I live in northeast Johnson County with my wife, Christy, and our two sons, Andrew and Alex.

When I am not teaching or researching, I enjoy reading books, watching movies and bicycling.  Here's a link to my favorite movie. I'm also an assistant coach for my sons' baseball and soccer teams.

I completed my Ph.D. in English from KU in May 1999.  My dissertation focuses upon Daniel Defoe, Samuel Richardson, and James Boswell. My principal area of study for my doctorate was eighteenth-century British literature. I enjoy much from this period, but one of my favorite works is Thomas Gray's Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard.

I received a bachelor of journalism and a bachelor of arts in English from MU in 1989.  I received my master's degree in English from MU in 1991

An early academic achievement
