A Short Lexicon of The Book of RevelationMuch of the language used by Christians comes from The Book of Revelation. Here are a few examples. 144,000: And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. (Revelation 7:4) Armageddon: And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. (Revelation 16:16) Bottomless Pit: And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (Revelation 20:3) Christ Stands at the Door and Knocks: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20) Great and marvellous are thy works: Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. (Revelation 15:3) Hallelujah Chorus: The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Revelation 11:15) Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword: He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. (Revelation 13:10) Men Seek Death: And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
