The ark was housed in the least seen part of Jewish Tabernacle, the Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies), which was seen only once a year by the High Priest who entered to offer a blood sacrifice on behalf of the people. The latter interpretation comes from the defeat God’s people (the Jews) experienced at the hands of “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon” (see 2 Kings 24-25). Many Israelites were taken into captivity and Jerusalem fell. Babylonians were eventually conquered by the Persians in 539 B.C.E. and subsequently the city of Babylon was destroyed when the Greeks conquered the Persians in 330 B.C.E. Babylon did not exist as a city during the time when John wrote the Book of Revelation. Historic Babylon was built about 50 miles south of modern-day Baghdad (Saddam Hussein started rebuilding Babylon on its original foundations in 1979). Babylon is described as a woman (whore) in Revelation 17:4 and the city (similar description) is offered in 18:16.

Yet another reference cited (from the words of Jesus in Matthew 24:36-42) includes: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only….so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” From the Latin word rapturo meaning “caught up.”
