And Bernie's Choice ...

Hi! I'm Bernie. In the picture you can see Alice, the Wonder Dog, our new puppy, with whom I've already watched many films. Truth be told, her interest in films revolves mainly around what the comfort level of my lap than what is on the screen. Still, she's my movie mascot! And like any good credit, she sometimes has a bone to pick!

I've been watching movies for as long as I can remember. In fact, I can't think of a time when I wasn't watching movies. Currently I live in Kansas City, an area that has more movie screens per capita than any major city in the country. Unfortunately, the art film options in KC are limited, as are rerun houses, so I supplement my viewing with lots of TV and video time.

Watching movies, though, is not enough, not if you want those films and their importance to stick. Reflecting and writing about films, reading reviews and arguing about them too. With that in mind, I put together this site. I hope that my reflections will help you in your own reflections on film.

This list is, as all such lists, idiosyncratic! I have tried to choose films that I am always eager to see, that have touched me deeply and gotten me excited by the wonder of the director's vision. You may disagree (I hope so).

With videos and DVDs, there is practically no film that is not "now playing" somewhere. These are films about which I shall add comments and reviews as I see them, as they are currently playing or have recently played in KC.
